The battery on my smoke alarm must need replacing as it set off the alarm this morning           :rage:
but at least I could take this early morning photo.
Every house should have a smoke alarm because believe me they do work.        ;D

I agree, recent figures show an increase of 12% in house fires, after years of declining percentages, it is a worrying trend.

Saved my place from going up in smoke, when a Beco fridge caught fire at 02:30. The Alarm was so efficient I was able to get to the fire almost as soon as it started and dealt with it myself. As an added precaution I have never bought a Beco product again.  :o

We have a Beco fridge freezer in the kitchen and when things started to go wrong with certain Beco  products I checked the details and the backing on the appliance and luckily for us they were ok.     We also have a fire alarm in the hall next to the kitchen and that's very sensitive too so we have to close the door to the hall when cooking anything so that it doesn't set the alarm off.
I can't stress how important those alarms are and every home should have one fitted

BEKO products were originally made in Italy, and they were cheap but had a poor reputation.
Production moved to Turkey, (I went to the factory) ex Bosch management from Germany set it up.
Quality improved massively, costs went down ... and they moved into TV and audio products too.
These days BEKO are an excellent brand in term of reliability and value for money.

Not according to Which? Beko tend to rate rather poorly in comparative testing and member feedback.

I'm talking about value for money, and great improvements over time.
Not TV and audio as such, but I purposely bought BEKO when I went for my Fridge Freezer, washing machine, and tumble dryer.  White goods are their forte.
I've been delighted with them.

Work now seems almost completed on the impressive Victorian building on Station Road which previously housed the Judge & Jury pub (and historically the town's municipal HQ, I believe). The work has been going on for months & months - must have cost a fortune to renovate. It's good to see such a building restored, but its future use (charity-run bistro and "training" and "admin offices") just seems to highlight (to my mind at least) the sad fact that Arundales - a great, long-standing fruit & veg shop on the other side of the road - couldn't be kept open. (Two different things, I know, but...).

There was another large (4-story) Victorian building renovated into apartments recently - on Penrhyn Road, just down from the Chinese restaurant. Again, it took months & months and must have cost a fortune. I guess in both cases the funding was largely public money (ie Council grants for regenerating the town)?
There's an ancient blog post about the history of the Municipal Building here:

Nice little web article on the restoration of the Municipal Building here:

Renovation of the building cost £1,176,660.

'This is what Colwyn Bay needs to do to regenerate town centre'
Urban design expert gives his verdict on how the shopping area can be revived.

Bristol-based Ben Hamilton-Baillie, who specialises in traffic and urban design, has come up with a series of recommendations after conducting a study.
He presented his findings to members of the Colwyn Business Improvement District (BID) who commissioned the survey to find ways off bringing in more shoppers, visitors and investment to the area.

Well....apart from mentioning underground public toilets and a fun fair this chap wants to relive a period pre-1984.....happy days! A railway goods yard on the lower level of Morrisons' car park is my suggestion if he wants any ideas.

I wonder how much he was paid by the local traders?

The bit about the railway station strikes me as twaddle and probably added to put a unique appraisal on the situation as the rest is so,so obvious. It seems most people can't remember why Colwyn Bay became what it is now but the die was cast way back in the late '60's and it's pretty much impossible to turn the clock back now.

It looks like the HQ of a secretive govt dept, dedicated to monitoring and oppressing the will of the people. Oh wait...
