Several more shops in Penrhyn Road have had their 1980s shopfronts removed and authentic Victorian ones reinstated as part of the Townscape Heritage Initiative programme. Penrhyn Road is starting to look quite smart now.

Colwyn Bay Civic Centre back in (I think 1969/1970??). The Mayor of Colwyn Bay has a shovel in his hand, so I guess he was going to hand it to the official guest to cut the turk perhaps? The guy in the wig is looking at his watch. I wonder if the guest was running late! Would this be in the day of Colwyn Foulkes I wonder? I have a feeling all present were awaiting the arrival of HRH Prince Charles? But if anyone knows differently please let us know.

Whoever the official guest was that day at the Civic Centre, they arrived in a Rolls Royce Silver Cloud. Seen arriving in top pic and leaving in bottom pic.

This picture is a bit blurry (sorry), but I think it must have been the members of Cor Meibion Colwyn who entertained the crowds on the day. All the proceedings were recorded for posterity, and a few years ago I took the Regal Zonophone reel to reel tapes to the council to put in their archives.

I think it was Prince Charles opening the Civic Centre back in 1968:

Well done DaveR. I Thought it was Charles. I did think it was after the Investiture, but I was wrong.

I was pleased to see that a new fountain has been installed in Queens Gardens, Colwyn Bay:

It's been operational for about a week now, it makes such a difference to the park. I hope it stays that way and suffers no damage because it really is pretty.

I dont see why, if there was an incedent at rainbow bridge it would affect bus services in or to Old Colwyn

I was told by someone stuck in traffic, that the A55 was closed both ways... because someone had jumped off that bridge.

Traffic was completely jammed getting into Colwyn Bay... this was about 4 and it took us over 30 minutes to get through the Bay.... Could have been another incedent I suppose
