The new cafe at the top of Station Road is now open.  It's called The Olive Tree (not to be confused with the eatery of the same name at Snowdonia Nurseries) and is very much a traditional "British" cafe.  Prices look reasonable and it looked pretty busy when I walked past at lunchtime.

Reasonable, I suppose, if you happen to be walking past and fancy a quick bite or drink. Cannot say more than that

The Station is now open.  There were a few people in there when I drove past at half four today.

Very strange. :o

Groupon are currently selling £35 standing tickets to see the Vamps in Parc Eirias for £35.

Booking fee of £3.50 per ticket plus £2.50 postage.

I thought Groupon normally offered exclusive deals.

I can buy them cheaper direct from Venue Cymru.

House gutted after terrifying Old Colwyn fire

A house has been left completely gutted after a blaze broke out this morning.

Four fire engines raced to the terraced property on Berth y Glyd, Old Colwyn to find flames tearing through the property.
Police, firefighters and ambulance crews are still in attendance but it is believed no one was seriously hurt.

Neighbours said the occupants managed to escape from an upstairs window of the Conwy property.

As of 11.30am, smoke is still billowing from the house, which has been left completely destroyed.
One eye witness said: “The house is pretty much an empty shell, it’s been left completely gutted.

"It’s amazing that the houses on either side have escaped damage.
“Firefighters are still damping down because there is still smoke pouring from it at the moment.
“It’s so lucky that no one was hurt.”

A North Wales Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “We received reports of a house fire at 9.55am this morning at a property in Berth y Glyd, Old Colwyn.
A spokesman for the Ambulance Service said: “We sent a rapid response vehicle and an ambulance crew. Paramedics are still at the scene."

RESCUES: Coastguards have been busy with a couple of rescues this afternoon. The first involved  people on board a jet ski  which was towing a rubber ring before breaking down leaving five people stranded out to sea off Colwyn Bay. Luckily a member of the public spotted them waving for help and dialled 999. They were brought ashore by Llandudno lifeboat crew.   refDP

Eirias Park Stadium was buzzing tonight with the concert by Sir Elton John.

A fabulous event, and nice to see Mr and Mrs Dave R there....     a few pics from my crappy iphone.

Yes, it was a fabulous concert, Elton performed for nearly two and a half hours without a break. At 68, he still brought the house down.

Report from ...Tom Davidson..

Elton John takes to the stage at Eirias Park for first ever North Wales concert
The Rocket Man wowed the sell-out crowd at Eirias Park in Colwyn Bay on Saturday night with a hit-strewn set.

Taking to the stage shortly before 7pm, the music maestro, dressed in a sequin purple suit, kicked the show off with a long instrumental showcasing his famous piano skills.

The music icon swiftly followed it up with Love Lies Bleeding, receiving a standing ovation from his very first song.

Sir Elton, 68, then dove headlong into Benny And The Jets as the sun beamed down on an ecstatic 14,000-strong crowd.

A sore throat may have scuppered the singer’s concert in Geneva but there was no sign of it as the veteran entertainer picked out tracks from his extensive back catalogue, including Candle In The Wind, one of the highest-selling singles of all time.

Addressing the crowd after the trio of hits from Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, Sir Elton said: “Good evening Colwyn Bay, North Wales!

“We’ve never been here before but we’re excited to be here even though it’s a bit cold” - to which the crowd responded with good-humoured laughter.

The gig at Colwyn Bay coincides with the release of his first album Empty Sky from 1969 and is one of the first UK concerts in his European tour, taking in Italy, Denmark, Germany and Spain.

Supporting act Bright Light Bright Light, from South Wales, got the crowd going earlier in the evening with ominous-looking clouds clearing just in time for the music to start.
