Wetherspoons margins are under severe pressure; they are trying to boost them a bit. However, cheap beer and food is the only real reason to go there (unless you enjoy watching alcoholics arguing), so they are slowly shooting themselves in the foot, in my opinion.

There was a hike in VAT from 17 1/2 to 20% and food prices have gone up  which I notice as I do a lot of the shopping!    WWW

This was predicted back in March, yet Aldi denied it!

Is it true this time??

I seriously hope not.
A good friend of mine left Asda to work at Aldi,  and was only appointed about three weeks ago!!   :o :o

I have checked with my friend, who says NO information has been given to staff regarding any closure.

I am not surprised if the staff don't know what's going on but I am surprised that they are considering closing as they seem to get busier and busier as time progresses. In the current economic climate more and more shoppers are discovering that Aldi have some really excellent products at very competitive prices. I think the fact that they tend not to sell many well known branded products puts people off but slowly the message is getting through.

I don't believe that Aldi is actually closing Dave.
There has been no consulation period introduced for redundancies, and that HAS to happen under employment law.

In fact, I believe they are still recruiting for a vacancy!

I was chatting to Wrex this morning, and we were talking about the recent swathe of new business opening announcements in Llandudno. This got me thinking....can we capitalise on this momentum to draw other expanding businesses into the town? By this, I mean we could draw up a list of chain retailers/cafes/businesses currently expanding their businesses in the UK and then email them extolling the virtues of Llandudno. An obvious base to start would be to look at Chester and see which businesses there would be suitable for Llandudno. Thoughts?

Such was done with Peacocks.   They were contacted by an interested resident with the suggestion that the old Coop would be suitable as a Peacock's Store.  They acted on the suggestion and the rest is history.    :D

TK Maxx is another fantastic store that would do well in Llandudno.

I'd say Pret wouldn't open in Llandudno (not enough office workers in need of a quick lunch and they don't open in smaller towns - same with Disney really).

What I would love is a Waitrose! Next to the station is perfect! It would really help cement Llandudno as an all-round shopping experience. Asda needs a bit of competition and is not exactly high-quality fayre, especially if you want really nice food for Christmas. It has its demographic, which is fair enough though. A Waitrose also might give Marks a kick up the bum as they need to give the ground floor a badly needed makeover (there were rumours 5 years ago they would). Most of the modern Marks food halls are black and sleek and Llandudno's is one of the few that is still completely the old format.
