The Planning Application for the Clarence has been submitted, the plans have changed slightly in that a shop has now been pencilled in instead of a bar on the Bodhyfryd Road side. I believe this is intended to be another convenience store operated by a national retailer.

Received Date : 16/09/2011

Following the refusal to obtain Planning Permission for conversion to flats, the Aberhod Restaurant at Rhos On Sea has been closed and put up for sale at £625,000:

The 'Kings House' Takeaway in Upper Mostyn Street seems to have not been a tremendous success, as it is already up for sale at £160,000.

A couple of years ago it was really nice but then they got a new chef and the food really went down hill after that.

Chocolate?  then why were they on the pier throwing dozens of lemons up in the air the other day, with a crew of photographers accompanying them?

 ?{}? ?{}? ?{}?

Thanks for your kind comments, we do work hard trying to make a go of the Deli. The photoshoot on the pier was because we have just won several Wales the True Taste awards, one of which was for our Lemon marmalade with Welsh gin. The idea was to have Mark juggling the lemons!!! We subsequently won Product of the year for the marmalade.

I see Cafe Culture have a full page ad in the Weekly News, with some special offers in. A pre-emptive strike against the soon to be arriving Caffe Nero possibly? Perhaps they could consider a loyalty card for regular customers as well - Caffe Nero have one whereby your every tenth coffee is free:

A FAST food takeaway was so dirty and had no hot water in two sinks, that it was at risk of a bacteria which could have killed customers.

Hygiene officials feared there was a risk of “pathogenic bacteria creating life threatening illness”, at Charcoal Grill in Old Colwyn.

Yesterday the takeaway’s owner Cuma Ali Tahsin, 38, was prosecuted for seven hygiene and administrative offences.

He was fined £1,700 and ordered to pay £700 costs and a £15 victim surcharge, by Magistrates in Llandudno. Environmental health staff at Conwy council became aware of possible problems and inspected the premises on Abergele Road in March, the court heard.

They found there was no hot running water in the hand basin nor in a double sink in the cellar used for washing up and food washing, among other offences.

Prosecutor Stuart Dunn said food handlers were unable to wash their hands in hot water after handling raw meat. He said this “could have caused pathogenic bacteria that could cause severe or life-threatening illness”. There was also a dirty floor and an “odour of sewage” from a drain, and the owner shut up shop after being told it was unfit for purpose.

The premises re-opened and have been clean since then. But father of three Tahsin is considering selling up anyway because the business is “not lucrative”.

Mr Tahsin admitted all seven charges which took place on or before March 31. Defence barrister Sarah Morgan said Tahsin, who took over the business in January, fixed the problems within four days.

Chairman of the bench Jim Barry said they were serious offences.

Anyone familiar with Old Colwyn will remember these premises as being the site for many years of the Treleaven Jones Bakery - standards of cleanliness were a lot higher back in those days!
