Walked past the back of Wetherspoons in Llandudno earlier and noticed they are seeking to vary their existing alcohol licence so they may serve alcohol from 8am every day of the week.

I wonder is there a demand locally?

Yorkie's Recipe for Bara Brith

INGREDIENTS
500 gr mixed dried fruit  (pop a few chopped glace cherries in if you wish, I don't)
300 ml cold strong tea (1/2 pint)
3 tbsp orange marmalade
1 large egg beaten
7 tbsp dark brown sugar (Muscavado)
1 - 2 tsp mixed spice (depending on taste)
500 gr self-raising flour
honey to glaze

METHOD
1. Soak fruit overnight in the tea.
2) Next day, thoroughly mix the soaked fruit, marmalade, egg, sugar, spice and flour to a wet consistency.  If it appears too dry add some more cold tea, or as I do, add a splash of sherry or a miniature Brandy.
3) Spoon into a large loaf tin or two smaller tins up to about the 3/4 level.
4) Bake in the preheated oven (set to gas 3, 325*F or 170*C) for approximately 1 3/4 hours or until the centre is cooked through. (Use the skewer test).  Check the cooking from time to time to make sure the top does not brown too much, or burn.  If this looks likely cover with foil or move down a shelf.   It is easy to overcook so be careful and you will finish with a nice moist, fruity result.
5) When cooked leave to cool for 5 minutes and then tip onto a cooling tray.  Glaze the top with the honey.
6) When cold serve sliced with salted butter and, if you like, some tasty farmhouse Cheddar.
7) Store in an airtight tin.  (I cut mine in two and freeze one half)

As the results of using this recipe lie with the person doing the baking, I will not accept any responsibility for any poor, undercooked, burnt or awful results.  It works for me!   :D

Hi Yorkie tried your recipe, result was very good even though i cut down the sugar a little for me . I missed the bit about the tinfoil being used , so got a slightly well done top. Next time I will remember it. Highly recommended,Thank you. $dins$

Only amongst hardened alcoholics, I would imagine. Are J D Wetherspoon so lacking in corporate responsibility that they need to make a few extra pounds from the dregs of society?

Two of our guests had an unfortunate meal at the Jasmine House last night.

No, they polished off a full breakfast, but they said the food they had had the night before had a slimy greasy unpleasant texture. The night before they had been to the Bengal Dynasty and were somewhat noncommittal about their meal. Trouble is , you never know what some people will pass as decent food normally. Personally anything vaguely slimy would have been sent back ! :o

Hailing as I do from the curry capital of the UK, and having worked and eaten in India many times, I can categorically state the following about Llandudno's Asian restaurants.

The Asia is superb,   The Bengal Dynasty is truly terrible.

Never eaten in either, but from other people's comments it sounds as though you are right. As for the Jasmine House, I wouldn't have gone there after it was awarded 0 points by the food hygiene patrol.

These people left here at going up to 8pm and said they were going to the Seahorse, they hadn't made a booking, so my thoughts were that they wouldn't have a snowball in hell's chance of getting in on a Saturday evening.

I wasn't wrong !

Fester will hate me for saying this but earlier this year we visited the Bengal Dynasty for their Sunday Buffet and enjoyed it.

As a result, we must have returned about half a dozen times without any problems whatsoever.

I think the customer service at the Bengal is far superior.
