I would have said Conwy, but it seems like rather a large force for just one small town?

This is an odd little photo, in that it depicts a group of women in Welsh dress enjoying a tea party - the odd thing is that at least half of the group are men in drag!

They might not all be the prettiest creatures.... but why do you think there are men in the picture?

I disagree.

Click on the photo to enlarge it.

The "guy" on the left behind the table with a teapot in his hand gives it away.

Looks like a Photoshop job to me.  :D

I like this photo of guests at the Crescent Hotel in Llandudno - you can click on it to see their faces more clearly:

People photographed at Carlton Corner in the 1920's. I didn't realise there was an elm tree at that location.

This could be connected to the Rebecca Riots of 1839-1943 which took place against taxation. The rioters, often men dressed as women, took their actions against toll-gates, as they were tangible representations of high taxes and tolls. The riots ceased prior to 1844 due to several factors, including increased troop levels, a desire by the protestors to avoid violence and the appearance of criminal groups using the guise of Rebecca for their own purposes. In 1844 a Parliamentary act to consolidate and amend the laws relating to turnpike trusts in Wales was passed

I saw that Lorri posted a question in the Gallery about this photo of the Darts Team at the Cross Keys in Penrhynside 1970's:

"do you know the names of these people in the darts team or do you know the name of the guy on the left side in the white jumper ?"

Anyone know?  $thanx$

Originally this picture was on the wall in the Albion Conwy.  Various ideas were put forward as to where the photo originated.  One local said the men dressed in traditional Welsh costume to protest against English law.  How true it is I have no idea.
