Opticians
« on: September 23, 2013, 11:39:49 am »
I have a pair of varifocal spectacles which I have had for several years.

I very rarely use them unless I feel I have to.

After an eye test last week, I was informed that my prescription has changed for my right eye.

Now I am quite fond of my current spectacles and I do not mind paying to have the lens replaced but the optician informed me it will cost me just as much for a replacement lens than it will for me to purchase a brand new pair of spectacles.

I called into Asda yesterday and was told the same in there.

When I had a puncture in my tyre and I took it to the garage I wasn’t told it would be just as cheap to buy a new car rather than replace the tyre !!

Why is this in opticians?

Is it simply greed or is there a very good reason?

The reason is because each lens is ground to the prescrition and to grind to fit an old frame that may no longer be in production, entails much more work.  The frame itself forms only a relatively small part of the cost of spectacles.  Or that is how it was explained to me!    ZXZ

Thank you, Yorkie.

It is good to know they are not trying to take advantage of me.

Unless, of course, they were taking advantage of me!    :D

No matter where you go everyone will tell you that you should have gone to Specsavers.  Mr Fisher there is recommended by me.  I have used his services for about 17 years now, or at least since they opened, and I have always been satisfied with the results and prices.
