I looked at what is claimed to be the UK's largest city/town forum, the Sheffield one:
http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/

Stats are as follows:

Threads: 266,965, Posts: 4,539,696, Members: 108,806
Most users ever online was 1,708, 25-05-2010 at 10:17.

If anyone sees any features/category/thread ideas that they think would be good here, please post away!

So the Three Towns Forum ended its first month of operation with a total of 6,627 visits and 128,026 pages viewed. Not a bad start!

Welcome to the Forum, Alice.  :)

The piece in the Weekly News seems to have done the trick, the record for most users online at any one time was broken again a few minutes ago:

Most Online Today: 40. Most Online Ever: 40 (Today at 05:22:29 PM)

It certainly seems to have done Dave, and it has now gone to 41 at 9.10pm - well done.

Oh and at 9.22pm it went to 43

October saw a large rise in visitors and pages viewed on the Forum. Over 2,100 people visited the Forum and the number of  pages viewed increased to 173,810 for the month, compared with 128,026 for September. If we extrapolate the pages viewed figure, that equates to over 2,000,000 page views a year.

are the 3.379 people visiting the forum  individuals -  or the same people visiting more than once? on a day off I can pop in and out of the forum many many times!

It is individual or 'unique' visitors... mainly guests having a browse.  But plenty of new members recently too!
I just wish we could encourage them all to post some comments.

Ha... I think I went on here more than 3379 times myself in the last month!

That's it, there were 3,379 'unique visitors' who, between them, made a total of 9,425 visits during the month and viewed a total of 171,776 pages.

Forums generally have many more browsers than posters.  There are a number of reasons for that, one of which is that first time visitors are often reluctant to intrude, since they may be unused to forums, and not realise that the apparent familiarity of current posting members is not exclusive , and  new members do get a warm welcome .  That's true for most decent forums...

Is that true?
Because when I joined the (old) Forum I was still only visiting Llandudno at weekends, and I was still working in Yorkshire 5 days a week.
Nevertheless, I decided to overcome my natural shyness,  kick the door down, and walk right in to this place...

I remember either Dave or yourself saying, 'help yourself to a coffee'.. that tickled me.
