Anyone attending the 5.30 am Easter Vigil service at St. Tudno's on Sunday may be interested to know that the public toilets will be open, thanks to the cooperation of CCBC.

North Wales Coast Branch of the Aircrew Association to lay up its Standard
Holy Trinity Church, Sunday 8 May, 10.30 am

On 8 May, the North Wales Coast Branch of the Aircrew Association is laying up its Standard at Holy Trinity Church, Llandudno. Membership of the Association was open to anyone having been awarded a flying badge who was serving or who had served in the RAF, the Army, the Royal Navy or the forces of commonwealth and other nations. The national organisation recently resolved to disband the Association because of a dwindling number of members, many of whom were World War 2 veterans. Last year, the worldwide membership was 4500, down from a peak of over 40000 in the mid-1990s. With 75% of members being aged 80 or more, it was inevitable that the Association was experiencing a loss of energy and was becoming unviable.

The North Wales Coast Branch which meets at Llandudno’s RBL Club had, at its peak, over 60 members. However, in line with the national organisation, continuation has now become impractical and as a consequence, the Branch is disbanding this year. Its Standard is to be entrusted to the care of Holy Trinity Church at the 10.30 am service on Sunday 8 May and will be laid up in the church’s Memorial Chapel. The Rector of Llandudno Parish, the Rev Prebendary John Nice will receive the Standard for safe keeping from the Branch’s Chairman, Arfon Evans. The Branch’s Chaplain, the Rev Prebendary Robert Griffiths, Rector of Rhos-Cystennin Parish, will be the guest preacher.

Members, ex-members and other interested persons are welcome to attend.

The 5.30 am Easter service at St. Tudno's was attended by 26 people, most of whom stayed to enjoy a breakfast of barbecued "bacon butties" provided by the Friends of St. Tudno's Church.

The next event at St. Tudno's is the spring working party on Saturday 14 May at 10.00 am.  We will be setting out the benches for the open air services and cleaning and tidying the church and churchyard.  Anyone who would like to join in will be very welcome.  Jobs for all and refreshments provided (but no barbecue this time!).

Miriam restored!

We are delighted to say that the window of Miriam at St. Tudno's Church, damaged in the break in earlier this year, has just been restored.

The gentleman who did the work told me that he had found an excellent "before" photo of Miriam on Flickr (evidently better than the one which I'd supplied).  I told him I was pretty sure that the photo would have been by a certain David Roberts.  The restorer said it was good to know that there is somebody photographing stained glass windows.  Thanks, Dave!

Glad to have been of help (assuming it was my photo he saw).  :) Good to see Miriam back in one piece!  $good$

Did we ever find out who was responsible for the break-in?

The burglar was arrested by police in London, with several forces from around the UK after him.  He was identified with our break in by a blood sample found at the scene.  Apparently he is being / has been deported home to Poland.

Many thanks to PC Mike Smith and his colleagues for all their help with this.

Open Air Services at St. Tudno's Church, Great Orme

The season of open air services begins on Sunday 29 May.  The services are at 11.00 am each Sunday till the end of September (with the exception of Sunday 5 June, when there will be a special service at 10.30 am) and transport is available from Holy Trinity Church at 10.30 am.  The services are very relaxed, ideal for children, and dogs are welcome.  If the weather is bad, the service is held in the church.  For more details, please see the parish website:
http://www.llandudno-parish.org.uk/sttudno.html

We look forward to seeing you at St. Tudno's.

Good news, I wonder if he had to pay for repairs? Also as Poland is in the EU what's to stop him returning?

No, we've not received a penny from the burglar.  As Bellringer has pointed out before, although the church is insured there's a £500 excess to pay - which would be better spent on re-roofing the church.

Celebrate Llandudno’s Patron Saint on St. Tudno's Day

St. Tudno is Llandudno’s Patron Saint and his feast day is on 5 June.  This year the Parish of Llandudno will be celebrating St. Tudno’s day with an open air Communion service at St. Tudno’s Church at 10.30 am.  There will not be a service at Holy Trinity Church at this time as all the congregation will be going up to St. Tudno’s and we warmly invite anyone from or visiting Llandudno to join us there.   Parking at St. Tudno’s will be very limited but the Parish will be providing a shuttle bus service between Holy Trinity Church, where parking is available, and St. Tudno’s.  The first bus will depart from Holy Trinity at 9.15 am.

St. Tudno was a Celtic monk who came to the Great Orme in the sixth century, bringing the word of Christianity to the people living on the headland and founding the church from which the town takes its name.  There has been a place of worship on the site ever since St. Tudno’s time, with the present building dating from the 12th century.  Open air services have been held at St. Tudno’s since the 1860s or earlier and the season of open air services runs from the last Sunday in May till the last Sunday in September, usually at 11.00 am .  If the weather is bad, the services are held in the church.

For more details on St. Tudno's, please see the parish website at:

St. Tudno's Church

It was too cold and windy yesterday morning to hold the St. Tudno's Day service in the open air, so the church was packed with more than 100 people.  We were pleased to welcome to St. Tudno's the Mayor and Mayoress of Llandudno, Miss Alice Llandudno, the Holy Trinity choir and congregation and a number of visitors.  Thanks to the Friends of St. Tudno's Church for all their work with the preparation and refreshments.

The open air services continue at the usual time of 11.00 am, from Sunday 12 June to Sunday 25 September.

The next service at St. Tudno's will be Compline by Candlelight on Tuesday 7 June at 7.30 pm.  These services are held once a month in the summer and you can find a full list of services on the parish website at:

Boer War Remembrance

On Saturday 12 November at 9.00 am wreaths will be laid at the South African War Memorial in St. Tudno's churchyard.  In 2009 the Lions Club of Llandudno were responsible for restoring the memorial as a fitting remembrance to the men of Llandudno and district who lost their lives in this conflict and the Lions now organise wreath laying at the Memorial each year.

The photograph is from the re-dedication of the memorial in 2009.
