Three shots taken from the Liberal Party Conference held at the Pier Pavilion in 1962:

Back of the Auditorium - not quite as I remember it...

The ornate plasterwork of the Proscenium Arch can be seen at the left of the photo:

Outside the Pavilion...still looking smart in those days:

This is one of the clearest old photo of the Pavilion I have, click on it to see the full size version. Must have been taken prior to 1890 as the Pavilion still has its Glass Roof which was replaced by a zinc one in 1890, owing to the fact the glass one made the Pavilion too difficult to heat.

I also recently found out that, in 1969, the remains of the original swimming baths in the basement of the Pavilion were being removed to make way for a Ghost Train Ride - workmen uncovered a plaque marking the completion of work on the pier back in 1878, it read:

Engineers: James Brunlees C.E., Alexander MacKerrow C.E.,
Resident: H. Neal C.E.
1878
John Dixon C.E., London
Contractors

I wonder what happened to this plaque?

Some colour ones:

I remember it was a chilly evening and there was a frost in the air, however, even standing near the Ted-yr-Ogof memorial on the promenade, the heat from the fire was immense.

Two views of an empty pavilion interior. Note the stage is set for the resident orchestra.
