Wales Rally GB 2015: Llandudno's Great Orme stage returns for this year's event

One of the most spectacular events in the rallying calendar is to return – and this year it will include the popular Great Orme stage in Llandudno.
Wales Rally GB (November 12-15), the concluding round of the 2015 FIA World Rally Championship, will again be based in Deeside, with most of the timed Special Stages set in the forests of North and Mid Wales.
ut fans will welcome the return of the iconic Great Orme and famous Myherin stages, last seen in 2013.

Wales Rally GB managing director Ben Taylor said: “The event has received many plaudits and awards since it moved to its new base in north Wales, but we are always looking at ways to improve the rally for both competitors and spectators.
“This year’s revised route combines the best bits from the past two years for those in the cars – Myherin is a real favourite with the drivers and the Great Orme provides one of the sport’s most dramatic settings.”

Organisers have a new advance ticketing scheme, offering up to 25% off 2014 prices. And a move to e-ticketing makes the process easier and saves money on the booking fees and postage.

Forest Day Passes have dropped from £33 to £25 this year too.

The three-day meeting with 19 special stages over 191 miles features the family-friendly RallyFest at Chirk Castle, as well as the unique challenge of two stages run in darkness on Saturday evening.

After two years of hosting the ceremonial finish, Llandudno will this year host to the ceremonial start, .........while the finish will switch to Deeside........ This will extend the opening times of the hugely popular service park into Sunday and ensure that teams and fans can share in the end-of-season champagne celebrations.

Access to the service park, as well as to the start and finish and the regroups in Newtown on Friday and Llandudno on Sunday morning will be free of charge. Last year, more than 40,000 people visited these areas.

Wales Rally GB: Amateur racers get chance to shine in National Rally

AMATEUR racers will once again get to taste the life of a professional at this year’s Wales Rally GB National Rally.

Plans for the 2015 event were announced on Wednesday, June 24, which will give competitors the opportunity to compete in front of huge crowds on the same legendary Special Stages as their FIA World Rally Championship counterparts.
The National Rally’s three-day competitive itinerary will shadow the WRC route with single runs through all 13 timed sections.

Conwy, the host county of this year’s Wales Rally GB, will take centre stage on the third day with the Great Orme tarmac stage as part of the 101 miles of action.
Ben Taylor, Managing Director of Wales Rally GB, said: “The popularity of the National Rally is an important factor in the recent success story of this event and it allows crews from all levels of the sport within the UK to be part of a World Championship rally.
“The crowds love to see the wide variety of cars that make up the domestic rally scene and it all contributes to a real end of season party atmosphere during the whole week.”
Last year’s sold-out rally attracted a capacity entry and organisers are expecting this year’s event to be similarly oversubscribed when entries, which will be priced at £999, open on Thursday, September 10.

Organiser International Motor Sports confirmed it had reached agreement with the Welsh government over hosting the event for the next three years.
Wales Rally GB is the UK's round of the World Rally Championship.
This year's event is due to take place in November in north and mid Wales. It brings around £10m to the Welsh economy each year through tourism and business. REF BBC

Wales Rally GB to join forces with Welsh rugby stars at Colwyn Bay event

TWO sporting giants are joining forces for a special event in Colwyn Bay.
As part of its final preparations for the rugby World Cup, the Welsh training squad will be put through its paces at an open training session at Parc Eirias on Tuesday, August 11.

Adding to the free spectacle will be motor sport star Elfyn Evans and his M-Sport Fiesta RS WRC car, who will also be present at the event.
The 26-year-old from Dolgellau has already made his mark in the 2015 FIA World Rally Championship, scoring a maiden podium earlier this season and will target another on his home event, Wales Rally GB which runs from November 21-15.
Mr Evans said: “I’ve been privileged enough to meet a couple of the Welsh players before as George North and Jamie Roberts are both fellow Red Bull athletes, so now it will be great to meet the rest of the guys.”
After the training session, Evans will be joined by selected members of Warren Gatland’s squad for a special photo shoot and joint interviews in the stadium.

Wales captain Sam Warburton, said: “This is a great time to be a sports fan in Wales with the Rugby World Cup to look forward to and huge events like the Wales Rally GB.”

Conwy will once again be the host nation for this year’s rally, which has become one of the biggest events on the sporting and entertainment calendar, bringing in an estimated £10million to the region’s economy.
Cllr Graham Rees, Conwy council’s Cabinet Member for Tourism, Marketing and Leisure, said: “We’re delighted to welcome Wales’ top names in sport to Colwyn Bay. Wales Rally GB and the Wales squad together in Eirias Stadium on August 11 will be a real treat for fans of both sports.”
