This year's parade had stilt walkers, steam engines, 2 military bands (at least), ... it was great I thought.
The only thing missing were the Star Wars storm troopers... GOOD!

And the three days would have been the perfect opportunity for Mr Waldron to promote his proposed erection for the former Pier Pavilion site. Mind you maybe the punters would mistake him for the "throw a sponge at the goalie" stall.

I hope this shop on the pier had been sorted out before the event. It was moved into that position over a year ago.

Since the event started the vitriol and sheer unpleasantness of some of the business owners has been a regular occurrence. But it's drifted away from the halcyon days of the first few events. The parades then were something to see: stilt walkers, at least two military bands, barbershop women's choir, jugglers and a lot of steam engines. But as Nem says it's down to volunteers to organise and it's mighty stressful in the week leading up to it and the first day.

I always wondered how they were Victorian.

If businesses can't capitalise on this amazing event then THEY who need to look at how they are running them rather than trying to blame others. It's three great days a year, surely their businesses can't be that fragile?

Not to worry, according to the Pioneer, not all businesses suffered...........

" Visitors who came with empty cars have left with their cars loaded with items they’ve bought from the shops which can only be good for the local economy.”

Well done to everyone involved in organising the Extravaganza, as usual. I saw Wrex doing his usual sterling work during the event.  $good$

Llandudno's Victorian Extravaganza organisers 'know event must change'

The chairman of Llandudno's Victorian Extravaganza has said changes will need to be made to the event next year.
Chris Williams, who took on the role as chairman in December 2016, has said there will be a fairer balance between a modern and Victorian event.

The three-day festival was criticised by local business owners after organisers had allowed burger vans and other food outlets to set up outside food businesses.
Daily Post readers also voiced their concern that the festival may have had its day.

Mr Williams said: "I'm glad it's all come out. We need to reform, reorganise and to be Victorian."
"We have to deal with the in house problems first and the wheels are already in motion for next year."
"I want to see all the shops get involved and to get out onto the streets like a market with local shops and charities."
It is a slow process and was never going to happen this year."

Mr Williams added: "Businesses need to realise the knock-on effect on the economy and people who will keep coming back."
"We've had messages on Facebook from people saying they're already booking their hotel for next year."
Thousands of people flocked to the seaside town to enjoy the fairground rides, magicians, street performers and classic Punch and Judy.
Revelers from as far as New Zealand and Canada came out to experience the 31st event over the Bank Holiday weekend.

He continued: "Next year there will be a better balance and it will make it cheaper for families."
"I do agree the event does need a shape up and as a team we want to make the town proud."

"It is very hard to keep some things going and does involve more than people realise."

Mr Williams had previously said he wished more business owners would help the volunteer led committee who organise the annual event.
"I'm glad businesses are listening and we can work together with each other."

The 'gamble' that Victorian Extravaganza organisers are taking to get it back its old glory
Annual festivities came in for criticism last year, with claims it had lost its way and its unique charm.

The new chairman of the Llandudno Victorian Extravaganza admits this year’s event will be a gamble as fair rides are cut back in favour of a Victorian style street market and sideshows.

The event held on May 5-7 celebrates the local Victorian heritage and the Victorian heritage in fairground and entertainment.

Chris Williams says the focus for this year’s three-day occasion is for it to go back to its roots, and has promised a more authentic Victorian experience.
Last year the organisers were criticised for allowing so many fast food sellers and modern fairground rides. One Llandudno restaurant owner even claimed the extravaganza has had its day, and the seaside town needed to take a more “21st Century approach” to attract visitors.

“There’s going to be far more of a Victorian feel about it, with a much bigger Victorian zone with vintage fairground rides, Victorian style sideshows and a steam engine arena.

“We are also organising a Victorian themed street market selling local produce, and businesses are getting involved with selling street food.”

“People did complain about there being too many modern fairground rides so from 123 plots we’ve reduced the fairground plots to 57.

“The modern rides aren’t scrapped completely as it’s important not to have something for the town’s teenagers. But they are being moved to another part of town, including a 35m big wheel.”

Mr Williams, who runs HTC Entertainment & Events added: “We’ve been working hard with Llandudno Hospitality Association, Mostyn Estates and Llandudno’s Chamber of Commerce to make this year’s even one of the best ever.”   https://www.dailypost.co.uk/news/north-wales-news/gamble-victorian-extravaganza-organisers-taking-14332868

Event organisers have said a new look Victorian Extravaganza this year is set to be the best ever.

Last year's event saw a change in the running of the event with a greater focus on the Victorian element and larger fair ground rides moved into the Llandudno Town Hall car park to open up the high street for businesses to get involved more with the event.

This year's event looks set to continue the trend of change with event organiser, Chris Williams from HTC Events and Entertainment, hinting at more changes.
Mr Williams said: "The Llandudno Victorian Extravaganza committee decided to reduce the number of fair ground rides at the 2018 event.
"We also moved a few larger rides into the town hall car park to create more space to move freely throughout the town.
"These adjustments along with the addition of more old-time fairground rides and exhibits, were deemed to be a great success.

"As a committee we are now looking to build on this and make sure the 2019 event is even better and set up the same thoughtful way of following last year's blue print."

The 2019 Victorian Extravaganza - set to be held on May 4, 5 and 6 - will see an increase in live entertainment including bands and a circus and big top tent putting on a variety of shows.

Mr Williams said the Llandudno Town Band would be returning to the event after a three year hiatus.
The focus on the Victorian theme would continue into this year's event with some nice prizes on offer for the best dressed family.

The committee has released a letter listing a range of sponsorship packages which make it clear where the main costs and focus are set to lie for the May Bank Holiday weekend event.

The top four sponsorship packages which are more than £1000 are all for entertainment stages, with organisers attempting to provide as much free entertainment as possible.

With the event just a few months away Mr Williams said he and the committee are excited to be able to provide the biggest event on the Llandudno calendar.
He added: "We are set to stage one of the biggest extravaganza's in the 33rd year of the event.
"We have been working really hard and everyone is very excited about this year's event.

"There were a few issues with the noise levels in some areas last year, but we have been working hard to try and reduce that this year."           ref Pioneer

Well, for starters it's owned by Google.  But more than that I would have expected the Extravaganza folk to use a domain address. Just looks that bit more professional.

I use Gmail, I find it fine. I think a lot of people find it tricky to set up an email address on a domain, when its sometimes easier to just add another Gmail account to your main one.

In September last year Google claimed it had stopped scanning Gmails, which it had been doing routinely but admitted it was still allowing numerous outside firms to do so.

I suppose some do find setting up domain addresses tricky, although the main culprit is usually the spf record.  But they should ask us.  We'd happily help them out.

We called into the Tourist Information Centre in the Victoria Centre this morning intending to purchase a programme for this weekend.

A wasted journey because the staff there have not yet received a supply.

Does anybody know where else I can possibly buy one?
