Nice quiet walk along Westshore.

The last photo, is unusual, all the other flowers have died, but the one trapped in the wrought iron survives !

Re the swans at West Shore. We only had one for ages, someone said the other had been 'got' by a fox, then there were 2 again, later that week there were 5. This Saturday we only had one again.!

In Bewdley there are big signs telling people feeding birds bread or chips damages their health , you can buy bird feed from certain  shops.

I think all the swans have migrated here to Trentham lake (Staffordshire) - there were 70 white swans and two black last week.

From the RSPB.....

Swans eat aquatic vegetation, which their long necks equip them to take from the riverbed. They take the molluscs that cling to the vegetation, and also eat small fish, frogs and worms.

They will graze big grassy fields, and can survive quite successfully in a field of short-cropped grass. Flocks of Bewick's and whooper swans can be seen in potato fields during the winter, feeding on the potatoes left after harvesting.

Swans normally find enough food in the wild without supplementary feeding. It is only in freezing weather that extra food can be helpful. Many people like feeding bread to swans and while this is unlikely to do them any real harm in the long term, it is no substitute for the proper diet that the birds themselves will seek out.

Grain, such as wheat, and vegetable matter, especially lettuce and potatoes, can be fed to swans. Food should be thrown into the water to avoid encouraging the birds onto the bank.

No mention of the money already wasted.   $angry$

"Sand could reappear at North Shore beach in Llandudno to save town from floods
Llandudno Coastal Forum has welcomed a new plan looking at how the North Shore and West Shore beaches could be enhanced.

A multi-million pound project to develop Llandudno’s sea defences to make the seaside town safe for the next 100 years has taken a step forward.

The Welsh Government can provide up to 75% of the funding, but the local authority (Ratepayers) will have to foot the rest of the cost."

I couldn't help but notice that even on the busiest days this summer, the small area of sand on North Shore beach was only about 60% full.
There was always plenty of space if you wanted to use it.

Should anyone be at a loose end for several hours, the full Beach Management Plan report is available here to download:

To save people the hassle of reading it all, I'll mention that the cost of reinstating the Timber Groynes/replacing the shingle with sand will be in the region of £11 - 13.5m, with the Welsh Government contributing 75% of that cost and CCBC taxpayers the balance.

Anyone noticed the new road sign erected on the triangle up the Orme. It is a warning sign for sheep wandering onto the road.
Fine. It's probably needed. Only thing is its location. In practice on many days a driver ascending the Orme will have driven past a dozen or so sheep before you reach the sign.

Interesting Dave, I haven't got the resolve to read 286 pages of it all. Is that the recommendation, to go back to sand? Be fantastic if so but my what a cost.

I suppose it depends on how you view it. If reinstating the sand is part of an overall beach preservation / Llandudno flood defence strategy,  then that's probably good value for money.

And it puts right the wrongs of destroying the beach in the first place.
