Re the bandstand in Happy Valley. Could this be something to do with the Friends of Happy Valley ?
No, it's part of the Alice trail. There's also going to be a floral clock on the Prom. Let's hope they can afford some flowers to put in it....
Funding has been approved for the Alice In Wonderland Town Trail at a cost of £90,000:The connection between Alice in Wonderland and Llandudno is well
known. The proposal consists of a number of features which start from
the Llandudno Promenade, leading up the Happy Valley, finally ending at
the entrance of the Alice in Wonderland garden trail. This will offer a
number of opportunities ranging from family outings, educational trips,
both formal and informal, and enhancement of the visitor experience,
which in turn plays an integral part of supporting the local economy.
The proposal consists of installing the following elements:
Mosaic panels depicting Alice in Wonderland characters designed
by pupils from Ysgol y Gogarth will be fixed to structures in
Llandudno Bay, Llandudno Promenade and Happy Valley Park.
Five large wooden carvings depicting Alice, the Queen of Hearts,
the Mad Hatter, the White Rabbit and the Caterpillar will be
positioned around Llandudno, with some set into existing
flowerbeds and enhanced by appropriate bedding. Each carving
will ‘signpost’ on to the next feature.
A Victorian bandstand will be built as a new feature, consisting of
balustrade panels featuring characters such as the Dodo, Playing
Card, Tweedledum and Tweedledee, the Walrus and Caterpillar.
This feature will enable opportunities for schools and local groups
to practice instrumental performances.
A floral clock will provide a major feature, depicting the White
Rabbit’s pocket watch, created on the Llandudno Promenade. The
clock will measure approximately 2 metres, it will be designed to
generate solar energy to power the GRP timing mechanism,
ensuring the clock continues to offer the correct time all year round.
In order that people are encouraged to follow the trail from the
promenade to the Alice in Wonderland garden trail, a series of
cement rabbit paw prints will be embedded, and small arrow signs
will lead to the next feature.
