Hindle Wakes was a fascinating watch, although it did seem at times like a simple travelogue of Blackpool and Llandudno. What I hadn't realised was that it's a landmark production, being a third remake of two previously made silent movies and - interestingly - still being staged with the centenary production of the 1912 feminist classic and the first London production in more than 30 years having had the entire run completely sold out at the Finborough Theatre during 2012.
The film version shown was overly simplistic but it nicely foreshadowed the 1960's revolution in attitudes and social awareness.
