Our quizzes are proving to be pretty popular, so here's new topic which covers every and any sort of quiz you can complete on-line.
For starters, this one's on salt:

100% Paying attention at College was obviously of some benefit! Or am I just a lucky guesser? We shall never know! Next please. :D :D :D

I got 9/14, mainly by lucky guessing! To be honest I had no idea what they were on about! ???

My score was 10 out of 14 but the questions were nothing like I had in my English Language O Level.

I am the forum dunce then as I only got 8 and couldn't understand many of the questions!

We had all this sort of rubbish in our German classes and it rubbed off into the English. There are 5 ways of saying the definite article in German, let along the declension of all the verbs! :D

Unless you were a professional grammarian, you wouldn't. Many of these types of quiz exist, and it amused me no end when a friend who's a professor of Medieval English at Oxford couldn't get them all right.
It's far from rubbish, however, but it is specialist - and there's a difference. This particular quiz uses terminology which is fairly arcane in nature and which has little or no relevance to writing or reading accurately. And there's a school of thought which attributes most of the currently 'correct' ways of writing and speaking to a Victorian who was short of a few bolts.
As English is essentially a form of Low German, it's little wonder it's 'rubbed off', Mike :D

Ah - me thinks I must get my first name altered on my Birth Certificate! :D

-
I got 9/14 - could do better!!

8 out of 14 must try harder, almost as bad as my golf

I am still winning. D)

Yorkie said he got 100% right, Bri.

My 100% was more by luck than judgement! :D

Another daft grammar quiz but this one has got some amusing graphics with it and even a coffee question for DaveR.

I should have paid more attention in school but just managed to pass the test.

I only got 7 right and I thought to myself it was a pity that I had forgotten so much of what I learnt at school.
It's the same with spelling. I think we were taught well at school but over the years I have forgotten how to spell many words and am often asking Mr Hollins to help me out!
Mind you, now we have the spell checkers and the one on here is nice and easy to use.

That was one of the better Grammar-type quizzes but even so it would be possible to contest some answers.
-
“A panda walks into a cafe. He orders a sandwich, eats it, then draws a gun and fires two shots in the air.
"Why?" asks the confused waiter, as the panda makes towards the exit. The panda produces a badly punctuated wildlife annual and tosses it over his shoulder.
"I'm a panda," he says, at the door. "Look it up."
The waiter turns to the relevant entry and, sure enough, finds an explanation.
Panda. Large black-and-white bear-like mammal, native to China. Eats, shoots and leaves.”
-
I too got 7 Hollins. Facebook offers me quite a few quizzes, but many are American, so I tend to fall down with some of the answers.
-
Not really a quiz, just an excellent online jigsaw...

I occasionally like doing these.
I got into them a few years ago when someone on this forum recommended this one....

Sorry that I can't remember who it was now but I have enjoyed them, so thanks.
