Wonderful set of photos' there.
In the top one, Jackson's Lane can be seen running from the Links roundabout into Craig-y-Don, with some buildings from Jackson's Farm close to the Links roundabout. The building on the left was part of Frank Tyldesley's builders yard.
I would date the photo at around 1969/70. The Links estate looks like it may be under construction - look above the maisonettes and you can see a tall crane.
In the photo below more can be seen of Frank Tyldesley's yard on the right. The block of houses close to the entrance of the yard were Police houses I seem to remember.
Nice array of 60's vehicles on Clarence Road. :)
-
The two houses by the yard entrance were police houses. The furthest house, the one with the little black car outside was called Dolfor and my Mum lived there with my Nain and Taid and her sister. My Taid was Sgt David Jones. I think he lived there until about 64-65. I can vaguely remember the house. When he retired he moved further down Clarence Rd opposite the tennis courts.

Sara, I remember your late father very well.
I have lived on Liddell Park for the past 30 years and I often used to chat to him when he took a walk down Clarence Road or visited the Vic Club.
Your father was a real gentleman. ;)
-
I am soooo loving all these pictures. Utterly fascinating stuff. :)
-
Bri, I think you mean my grandfather, my Mum's father. My Taid used to walk his corgi everyday, first Judy, then later Lucy. Both dogs were bilingual!
He was a lovely man, sadly he died of cancer in 1990.
I don't know if you knew but he was awarded the Kings Commendation after the 1950 Penmaenmawr Irish Mail train crash. He was one of the first on the scene,(he was living in the police house in Penmaenmawr then) and despite the risk to himself, entered the wreckage and rescued several passengers.

Sara, I never knew that about your Taid.
Thank you for sharing the story with us and thank you to DaveR for providing us with a photograph of the tragic event.
I just cannot believe it has been over 20 years since David Jones passed on.
-
Yes thanks Dave. I have lots of photos of the rail crash, taken in the hours after the accident I think. I also have my Taid's report and statements from various people ie signalman, railway workers about the incident.
Bri, where does the time go? I often pass the house in Clarence Road and have many happy memories.
-
Hi Dwsi, The photo you put up of Dunphy`s bottling store brought back happy memories for me as my late father is third from the left leaning by the steps.

have you thought about posting some of the photos on here?
-
I will Dwsi as soon as I can get my husband to scan them in for me.
Did there not used to be a gallery on here? I thought there was a link at the top of the page where you could see all the pictures on the site, but it's not there now.

It's now called 'media' ;D
-
Duh, of course it is, never occured to me to look in there. ???
-
It's now called 'Photo Gallery' again. $good$ The Forum software decided to rename it to Media during the upgrade. :rage:
-
Fascinating maps, Dwsi, thanks for posting them. If you have any other old maps I hope you'll post them too.
-
The attached photo shows a view from 1968 and is looking roughly from where B&Q is now towards the Prom, with the back of the Four Oaks Hotel clearly visible. My question is...what was the building with the red roof? It's roughly where the Swimming Pool is now. What was on the site of the original Swimming Pool before it was built?
-
It's the football ground where Asda and now Parc Llandudno were built
-
i think the building was part of the cae mor the land where the swimming pool was/is was used by the yachting people , the coach park was just a feild around that time i remember that tattoo by the armed forces ,great days
-
It must have been taken in the summer - one of Gus Simons' fairground lorries can be seen behind the dark coloured coaches.
-
Bodhyfryd Road early 1960's.

I just came across this when I was searching for something else.
Apologies if it has been posted before.

Very good! I can't recall seeing them before. Cheers!
-
Hope the move goes well for you tomorrow. Will you have a view of the sea?
You must be very organised to have time for the forum tonight!
-

-
$thanx$ Some stuff has been collected today and they come back again tomorrow at about 9am. I'm hoping the broadband will be working within a day or so and should be a faster speed too D) Sadly no sea view, but the views from the conservatory across to the little Orme etc are very pleasant!
-
One year on, still happy in the new home! Some pics from a Sixties guide book, didn't it look great back then!

A nice photo from 1934 of the shop that is now Nigel Roberts Newsagents on Gloddaeth Street. Is the woman on the right running for a bus?
[smg id=3107]
-
A great pic, the shop looked very interesting back in those days!
-
More pics from two of my old books
-
It's interesting to see how much younger the town was, then. Many trees in their infancy and the town itself markedly smaller.
-
All taken around 1886-1900 (Pavilion was finished but Grand Hotel construction not started).
-
Mostyn Street - and not a car or tram track in sight!

or bus stop.

Lovely shot from the 1970s of Happy Valley:

Sorry my appearances on the site a rarity nowadays-90% due to working abroad for most of the time in recent years.
Alerting members to the showing of a 1952 film on TV tomorrow (Sunday 4th August) much of which was shot in Llandudno in that year.
The film is called 'Hindle Wakes' and here's the link to a film website with a local history emphasis
http://reelstreets.com/index.php?option=com_films_online&task=view&id=420&film_ref=hindle_wakes_%281952%29&Itemid=3 (http://reelstreets.com/index.php?option=com_films_online&task=view&id=420&film_ref=hindle_wakes_%281952%29&Itemid=3)
Needs going to page 3 or 4 for the Llandudno scenes.
NB, Its on early! 6.00am BBC 2
-
Thanks for the early warning, R.
BBC2 0600 Sun, 4.8.13.
-
Hindle Wakes was a fascinating watch, although it did seem at times like a simple travelogue of Blackpool and Llandudno. What I hadn't realised was that it's a landmark production, being a third remake of two previously made silent movies and - interestingly - still being staged with the centenary production of the 1912 feminist classic and the first London production in more than 30 years having had the entire run completely sold out at the Finborough Theatre during 2012.
The film version shown was overly simplistic but it nicely foreshadowed the 1960's revolution in attitudes and social awareness.

I think they have got the wrong kiosk on page 4 – hinwa132.
They have photographed Fester’s emporium instead of the gents' toilets towards the end of the pier.
-
That's a really interesting site, RichieC. Lots of old favourites there - and of local interest it also has Unman Wittering and Zigo.
-
Just watched that film. Thanks RichieC.
What a great Sunday afternoon blast of nostalgia.
Poor old Cathy and Old Mrs Hollins though!
-
They have photographed Fester’s emporium instead of the gents' toilets towards the end of the pier.
An easy mistake to make, he frequents both places on a regular basis.

After a good weekends trading, Fester is often flushed with success Dave. ;)

As things used to be! The R and be T in the early days!

Enjoying a show at Happy Valley, Year not known.
-
They're both in our Library, I think. The second is pre-1950 as it seems to have the old stage façade.
-
Looking at the paddle steamer I would say it was pre 1926.
-
I'll have to have a look in the Library then, before I post any more! :D
From a quick glance it would seem that the 700 plus that I have are well represented on the Forum! Saves me posting any more! ZXZ
-
Our library on here is pretty extensive and well worth browsing, but it's always great to have more.
Mull: yes - you may well be right about that.

Most definitely during the Edwardian era. Look at the hats plus the length and style of the Ladies dresses.
-
Me and my auntie (& mum & dog in the car) on Marine Drive, 1970s. Lovely view of West Shore & Deganwy/Conwy (photo 2: the smoochy couple in b/g are nothing to do with us...)
-
My mum & nana, Upper Mostyn Street, 1940s.
-
Love those family photos of yours Bedelia. Two very different eras but both equally fascinating.
-
Thank you. Will upload some more in due course. Sad to say mum doesn't remember anything much now, so it's nice share with those who recognise these scenes.
-
Hi,
I would love to see any old photos of Jackson's Farm. I've just discovered that my Great, Great Uncle Ben Jackson worked at the farm until a fine old age. My Taid, Norman Jackson also delivered milk from the dairy before the War. Thanks ;)

Were there any photos attached to your link Linda? I lived near the farm when I was young and it would be nice to see some photos of the old farm.
