Social media driving rise in mountain call-outs
As a matter of interest it would be nice to know how many of those people who have called out the Mountain Rescue team to rescue them have offered a donation to the organization

Watching the TV series about this it can become quite depressing. It doesn't need expert climbing knowledge to realise that it goes dark, can become cold, the weather can change rapidly, mobile 'phone batteries can run out and it usually isn't a great idea to climb inhospitable mounds of loose rock on your own without a decent map in a decent map case.

Very, very few of these accidents are unavoidable and are frequently simply the clueless  being careless.
Nothing is so firmly believed as that which we least know.  ― Michel de Montaigne

Tryfan rescue for lost walkers who ended up stuck on ledge
Two teams from Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue took to the mountain to find them

One person said: "Yet another totally avoidable call out. When will these people ever learn. It must be so frustrating.      That's true and I wonder if the OVMRO have been called out again this Bank Holiday

Man left badly injured after jetty fall as rescuers battle incoming tide
Coastguard officers and lifeboat volunteers were called to help

A man was taken to hospital after suffering a bad leg injury following a fall on a jetty yesterday (Thursday). Llandudno Coastguard was called to the North Shore jetties yesterday and had to ask for assistance from a lifeboat crew, with a small space to work in, as the tide came in.

A Llandudno Coastguard statement said: "We were called out this afternoon to a casualty who had fallen and injured himself on one of the North Shore jetties. On arrival we carried out a full body check and discovered that he had a deep gash on his leg, a broken ankle and that he had inhaled some sea water.

A STRICKEN yacht had to be recovered by lifeboat crews from Conwy and Llandudno after breaking down in stormy conditions.

Conwy Lifeboat's May-Bob inshore lifeboat was initially deployed with a crew of four to assist the 27-foot yacht, which  experienced engine failure near the Fairway Buoy in the middle of Conwy Bay on Monday.

After a number of unsuccessful attempts to start the engine and following discussions with HM Coastguard about the challenges posed by the ebbing tide, Conwy Lifeboat crew called in support from their volunteer colleagues in Llandudno.

Man fell 100ft down Gwynedd mine shaft and rescuers were amazed by what they found
Cavers and climbers heard his cries for help.    One very lucky guy, he should buy a lottery ticket after that incident

Camping trip on one of Wales's highest mountains during Storm Ashley went predictably wrong
Walkers saw their tent blown away and they had to cower behind boulders before rescuers came to their aid
It's often said that 'with hindsight' people would make different decisions. In this case with 70mph winds and heavy rain forecast in Storm Ashley it was a lack of foresight that landed two walkers in a precarious position.          The actions of the pair not only put  their own lives at risk but also the lives  of the Mountain Rescue Team that came out.      Thankfully everyone came down safely thanks only to the OVMRO

Casualty rescued after becoming marooned at Black Rock Sands
They were left 'wet and in shock' after tide rose quickly at popular Gwynedd beach

A casualty was rescued after becoming marooned at Black Rock Sands. Criccieth Lifeboat was called to the incident yesterday morning (Saturday), with the tide rising quickly.     The casualty was lucky that it was only the bike that was lost as the situation could have been much worse if the RNLI hadn't have rescued  the casualty
The tide does come in quickly at the Black Rock Sands and cars as well as people often get stranded on the sands

Swimmer suffers hypothermia after struggling in the sea for 90 minutes
The Coastguard were called to the incident in Colwyn Bay as they warned of the dangers of cold water swimming

A Llandudno Coastguard statement yesterday said: "We were called out at 16:45 yesterday (Thursday) regarding a swimmer in difficulty at Colwyn Bay.

"On arrival we found a swimmer on the shoreline who had suffered cramp whilst swimming and as a result had struggled to make their way ashore resulting in them being in the sea for an hour and a half and suffering severe hypothermia.

"We covered the swimmer in blankets, balaclava and survival bag, sat them in our vehicle with the heating on and administered glucose gel.

I'm not sure what is going on near Rhos Point but I've just been woken up by a helicopter hovering over the sea at Rhos.    Looking out of my window I can see bright lights shining from a vessel at sea just a short distance west of Rhos Point but can't tell what exactly is going on
I'll find out tomorrow but I hope that everyone is ok
