It used to be called the Everest rule. So many don't seem to realise that coming down is the most dangerous part of mountain walking.

Windfarm boat first on scene as rescue drama unfolds off Little Orme
The incident was particularly significant for one person involved in the rescue

A windfarm vessel sped to the aid of a paddleboarder and a canoeist in difficulties off the Conwy coast. Having been alerted to their plight, the crew went to check on the pair off Angel Bay on the Little Orme, Penrhyn Bay.

The boat then stood by while RNLI Llandudno’s crew was scrambled. It took less than three minutes for their inshore lifeboat to reach the scene on Saturday afternoon, February 1.

You're spot on Ian, you have to be careful there with those high steps going up to Llyn Y Cwn.     I had to come down there years ago in very icy conditions and every step we took we had to hold on to the rocks at the same time.   Luckily for us we got down safely

Mountain rescue teams called to injured walker on Yr Wyddfa
The casualty had to be stretchered off the Llanberis Path

An OVMRO statement said: "The team was called out on Tuesday evening to support @llanberismountainrescue who were holding their annual general meeting. A walker descending the Llanberis path had twisted their ankle and tried to continue, but further slips hindered progress and they called for help.

Volunteer mountain rescue crews in north Wales are being stretched to breaking point by increased callouts, police say.

Mountain rescue crews said this year had already seen "unprecedented demand", and two deaths in just 10 days.

Friends of 28-year-old Maria Eftimova, who died last weekend, have thanked the mountain rescue crews who tried to save her.

Officers say social media apps - such as TikTok and Instagram - were responsible for greater numbers of people walking in the mountains and on the coast.

Dafydd was always a favourite climb of ours, but it's almost always cold and often wet and windy.
