Take a look at the coffee hatch that opened on the West Shore!

Coffi and Vinyl opened on March 12, and sells a range of vinyl recordings and music-themed hot drinks, including The Coldplay Coffee (designated ?as boring as the band?)

Re: West Shore Issues..................Public toilets vandalised
« Reply #1382 on: May 02, 2024, 09:05:49 am »
Public toilets in Llandudno have been vandalised ahead of the busy bank holiday weekend. The public toilets on the promenade at West Shore have been deliberately damaged by vandals, rendering them ?out of order? ahead of the Llandudno Victorian Extravaganza this weekend.

The toilets are thought to have been damaged following a spate of vandalism in and around the West Shore area. The damage has prompted some people to blame Conwy County Council on social media.

But Cllr Louise Emery has revealed the damage to the pay-to-use toilets was unforeseen. ?There has been some intentional damage to the toilets in West Shore, damage to the locks on the disabled toilet in particular,?

The police have been contacted, but they have nothing to go on...................    :)

This old nugget again the 2 councillors blamed vandalism before then it was found the locking mechanism was no good. The salt water/ sand doesn?t agree with it.

The Llandudno lake that suddenly turned blue to leave it 'looking like the Med'
Big things are planned at the historic boating lake

Apprehension rippled through a North Wales community when a much-loved seaside lake suddenly turned unnatural shades of blue and turquoise. Photos showing inky blue blotches fuelled fears of contamination and people in Llandudno were warned to keep their children and dogs well away.

Adventurer Chris Brinkmann, owner of local sightseeing company Adventure Tour Snowdonia, was on a regular paramotoring flight on his BGD Luna3 paramotor when he came across the dyed blue lagoon from above. He shared a video that failed to allay the concerns of local residents.

I don't know why they put the liquid in to the pond as the water runs into the pond from the Great Orme then goes out of the pond on the shore side.
It's nice to hear though that the boating enthusiasts are going to use the lake again.    Years ago it was just model yachts but then it was remote control boats.
I do remember one very keen boating enthusiast who had to bring his model ship on a trailer as it was that big.   Probably about 6 feet long and he used a winch and ramp to get it in the water and he had a pair of waders as he too had to go in the water to get the ship in and out of the water.      I wish that I'd have taken a photo of the ship as it was quite special

Thanks for posting those links Steve, it brought a lot of nice memories back especially the second link.
I remember speaking to Roy Grainger many years ago and I think that he said that he built everything on those boats.     I had forgotten just how big the aircraft carrier was, at 12 foot long it was massive so no wonder Roy's boats had so many admirers

Re: West Shore Issues....Model train fun day on Llandudno beach for charity

North Wales' only children's hospice is set to benefit from a model train summer fun day at the seaside.

On August 10, the North Wales Model Engineering Society (NWMES) will host a fundraising event featuring miniature steam and electric train rides at their track on Llandudno’s West Shore beach.

The event will be on from 11am to 4pm, with profits donated to Hope House Tŷ Gobaith.

Frank Simpson of NWMES said: "I’ve ordered the good weather and we’re looking forward to a great day where we can provide many rides to children and families whilst supporting this wonderful local cause.

"We’ll have both steam and electric locos out during the day as well as members’ models for the public to see.

"We’ve some new picnic tables for people to use and watch the rides and views from plus our new halt signs will be up."

With more than 70 members, the NWMES has built its site on Llandudno's West Shore into a lovely attraction.

A NEW exhibition at Llandudno Museum will celebrate the life of a shipwreck on the town’s West Shore.

The Flying Foam was a schooner built in 1861 that travelled around the UK coast delivering goods.

But one of her journeys in North Wales, on January 21, 1936, she battled against a raging storm, from which she did not recover.

The shipwreck is now buried under sand.

That was an interesting article to read Steve,  I haven't been to see the wreck for many years so I was unaware of the shifting sands.    To be honest I think that the sea defence of 1993 is as much to blame for the sand as the theory that it comes from Penmaenmawr and Llanfairfechan
My understanding is that at the time the ship being stranded it was carrying a cargo of coal
I only found this out in recent years, but my mother who lived in the Penmorfa Cottages on the West Shore was sent out by my Taid to bring some coal back to the cottage.  Mam took a pram to the wreck and filled it up with coal and took it back to the cottage

Re: West Shore Issues..........Dog show “Mini Kruffs"
« Reply #1391 on: August 16, 2024, 09:48:25 am »
A DOG show is to take place in Llandudno later this month, the proceeds from which will go towards buying frontline medical supplies to send to Ukraine.

“Mini Kruffs Dog Show” will be held at West Shore, by the children's play area, on Sunday, August 25.

Registration opens at 10am, before the show gets underway (weather-permitting) at 10.30am.

Dogs can be entered into the show at a cost of £2 per entry.

Categories at the show will include best puppy under 12 months, most handsome dog, brightest eyes, fancy dress, dog most like its owner, and dog the judge would like to take home.

The overall first prize winner will receive “Teddy’s Trophy”, with all proceeds to be spent on supporting medical needs in war-torn Ukraine.

All are welcome at the event, which will be sponsored by Mochdre Vets, and will also feature a raffle.                    pioneer

I haven't visited the West Shore for a while so I went there last week to have a look at the place.    It's a mess and a disgrace and it's all man made and caused by the Council who sanctioned the disasterous sea defence of 1993
I feel sorry for the Friends of the West Shore who have worked hard to make the area look nice but I'm afraid that they are fighting a losing battle as the sand hills have now reached the pavement area.
The Council will not accept the fact that they got things so wrong and didn't learn from their mistake as they repeated the mistakes on the North Shore

Anger and dismay as plug pulled on famous Llandudno boating lake that's 'prone to freezing over'
The lake is to be drained and left empty for more than four months

A model yacht club with big ambitions has been left fearing for its future. Members were horrified to discover their Llandudno boating lake is to be drained and left empty for a third of the year.

Conwy Council is to pull the plug on its West Shore lake so that annual maintenance can take place. The local authority won’t refill it until mid April next year to mitigate risks to the public should the lake freeze over.

A FORMER social club on Llandudno's West Shore will be demolished to make way for apartments.

The old West Shore Social Club building, on Bryniau Road, will make way for the construction of 12 residential units (across three floors) after a planning application was approved by Conwy Council’s planning committee.

Described as a “dilapidated” building in the proposal, the social club has lay empty for several years, with efforts for housing to replace the site dating back to 1998...https://www.northwalespioneer.co.uk/news/24723904.old-social-club-llandudno-demolished-build-flats/?ref=rss&IYA-reg=49560bcd-5a9c-47f0-8fc5-ba2e71710589
